HOSPISCARE, the local hospice charity for Exeter, central and east Devon, has announced the appointment of former NHS manager Anthony Martin as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Anthony brings with him extensive experience from a long career in the NHS, where he has managed a range of acute hospital and community health and care services across Devon and the wider region.

A spokesperson for the charity said: “We’re delighted Anthony will be leading Hospiscare into a bright future.

“Anthony has a strong background in healthcare governance as well as significant experience operating at a strategic level.

“He’s also been a trustee on our board since 2023, making him the ideal person to lead us through this next exciting chapter.”

Anthony will officially take up the role on November 1, 2026. Ahead of his start date, he will attend a number of Hospiscare engagements and events to support a smooth transition into the role.

Anthony said: “I am honoured to lead Hospiscare into the future. In my time as a volunteer board member, I have been very impressed by the dedication and commitment to the charity from its staff, volunteers, and community partners. I look forward to joining them all and to helping ensure continued excellent care for people using Hospiscare’s services.”

Mike Williams, Hospiscare’s Chair of Trustees, said: "It is great news that Anthony is joining Hospiscare at this time of significant change as the Government publishes its’ future plans for end of life care this Autumn.

“Anthony has wide leadership experience, and he will provide a very people focused way of working. He takes over from Wayne Gale who has done an outstanding job as our Interim CEO for the last two years."

Hospiscare provides specialist palliative and end-of-life care for more than 2,000 patients and their families every year across Exeter, central and east Devon.
