A DROP-in event was held at Crediton Congregational Church on Tuesday, January 21 to advise people on how to reduce their energy bills and save money.
The event, which was part of the Big Energy Week (January 20 to 26), was organised by Exeter Community Energy and Wessex Resolutions CIC and supported by Crediton Food Bank.
Local staff from both organisations gave advice to visitors on how to take control of their energy usage, reduce their household bills and make sure they get the best deal.
A survey conducted by Citizens Advice and the Energy Saving Trust shows that more than a third (36 per cent) of British households have not made changes to their energy use in recent years.That’s 9.7 million Research revealed that there is a significant gap in consumer understanding about managing household energy bills use and simple steps people can take to reduce their carbon footprint.
Four small changes that could make a big difference and potentially save £100’s a year are:
• Turning your thermostat down by one degree
• Changing your lightbulbs to LED
• Turning appliances off when not being used
• Only using the right amount of water in your kettle.
Advice was also available on switching to a cheaper energy tariff and accessing extra grants and benefits.
