CREDITON Foodbank is encouraging parents who may be worried about feeding their children over the school holidays to get in touch if they need support.

With supermarket vouchers no longer available during the holidays for families receiving benefit-related free school meals, some households may be facing extra pressure on already stretched budgets.

The Foodbank wants families to know that help is available.

Parents living in Crediton and the surrounding villages can contact the Foodbank directly to arrange an appointment with the Coordinator. Support is available to anyone who needs it and is not limited to people claiming benefits.

Keri Storey, Chairperson of the Crediton Foodbank and Support Hub, said: “For lots of parents, the school holidays are wonderful, but they can also be really expensive.

“Suddenly you’re providing breakfast, lunch and snacks every day, and if the supermarket vouchers were helping you before, losing those can leave a real gap.

“We know there will be parents lying awake worrying about how they’re going to get through the summer, and we’d just like to say: please don’t struggle on your own. You don’t have to hit rock bottom before you ask for help.

“Whether you’ve had an unexpected bill, your hours have been cut, or you’re simply finding that your money doesn’t go as far as it used to, we’re here to have a conversation. There’s no judgement, just friendly people who want to help you find the support you need.”

Families living in Crediton and the surrounding villages can ring, text or WhatsApp 07740 202721 or email: [email protected] to arrange an initial appointment with a coordinator.

• During 2025, the Foodbank provided more than 2,000 food parcels to people living in Crediton and the surrounding area.

Anyone who may need support, or who knows someone who might, is encouraged to get in touch.
