LION Hazel Evely has been elected President of Crediton Lions Club for the coming year.

Hazel, who has been a member of the Crediton Club for a number of years, takes up her post in July at a handover lunch meeting planned for July 13.

Lion Ann Whitehouse was also elected as the Vice President for the year.

Outgoing President Peter Bryan said: “Hazel will be a fantastic asset and we all wish her well in continuing the work that the Club does.

“Lion Hazel is well-known in Crediton and was Morrisons Community Champion for many years. I am sure many will know her quite well already, those who have been vaccinated will have seen her at the Leisure Centre volunteering.”

He went on to say: “There is a lot on the agenda this year starting with our support for Lions Clubs International Foundation awareness event in the Crediton Town Square on June 18 and a Golf Tournament at Downes Crediton Golf Club on July 9 in support of Children’s Hospice South West.”

Hazel said that she is looking forward to the challenges ahead and thanks all members of the club for their support.

Hazel’s first fundraising event will be a Lions Garden Party on July 17 at Chilton House, Threshers, home of outgoing President Peter Bryan.

This event is in support of Lions Clubs International Foundation, now in its 53rd year responding to humanitarian crises.

A first for the Club is a “Cow Pat Challenge”. Tickets will be sold throughout the summer at £1 each and the winner will be the one who has the ticket for the location in which a cow flops first. More about that later.

“We are pleased to be getting back to some semblance of normality,” said Peter.

He added: “This month’s club meeting was the first for many months in which all of us could get together to plan our activities, this was outdoors and we managed to dodge the showers.

“At the meeting the newest member of the club was welcomed and received her Lions badge and welcome pack.

“New Lion, Alison Blair, of Bow, came along to our marshalling at the Vaccination Centre and subsequently expressed her wish to join.

“Members warmly welcomed Alison and we are all quite sure she will be an asset to Crediton Lions and Lions Clubs International as the years go by.”
