SUNDAY, September 13 was up there as one of the greatest days in my life. About three-and-a-half years ago I put an advert in our village magazine, asking for like-minded people to start up a village team. I had only two replies Guy Gibson and John Lunn.

Little did I know what the three of us would achieve, not only in football but in recreation as well...

Whether it be rain or shine we would turn up and follow the expertise of our head coach, Guy Gibson.

At the beginning of last year we took the plunge and decided we were ready to join the league. Amongst the panic, excitement and paperwork we went for it and played our first match.

All I can say is the boys did us proud. The first time out in the sweltering heat we won 2-3 against Bradninch. Put it this way it's a good job I was wearing sunglasses and nobody could see the tears of joy as the boys pulled it off.

Even the local derby between Copplestone and Crediton, after being 2-0 down at half-time, they got on that pitch and gave it their all; it paid off and we drew 2-2.

I must say a huge "thank you" to all involved, Guy and Kay Gibson, John and Suzanne Lunn, our sponsor Mike from Optima Business Consultancy and all the helpers, past and present and, last but not least, my husband.

The point of this is not only to congratulate the players for making us all proud, but to say that if your prepared to give a little of yourself away to help others you might surprise yourself in what you can achieve.
