THERE was a good turn-out when the Waste Action Group of Sustainable Crediton ran a Food Surplus Cafe at the Boniface Centre on Saturday, September 30.

The lunches were created using surplus food donated by local businesses and supermarkets as well as seasonal garden produce.

The aim of the event was to share delicious food, tips on reducing food waste in the home and to bring people together for a community meal.

It was the first time such an event had been held in the town and a number of volunteers worked hard to produce the menu of leek and potato soup, pasta bake, corn in the husk, salads, chilli vegetables and rice, fruit salad and apple crumble.

Esther Mann, Waste Action Group co-ordinator for Sustainable Crediton said: "A big thank you to all the businesses in Crediton who donated food.

"We couldn’t have done it without you!"

More food was donated than could be used and guests were asked to take some home.

Guests enjoyed the Food Surplus Cafe which was a "Pay what you want lunch" and donations were welcome.

Volunteers are needed for future events. If you can help please contact Esther Mann on 01363 776225 or email: [email protected] .
