THE next Music Makers’ evening will take place on Saturday, January 21 at Crediton Congregational Church.

The evening will include some new a capella vocal pieces sung by Annie Quicke, Deborah Hamilton and Laura Baudin, saxophone pieces played by Hayley Gregory, and works for cello played by Amye Farrell. Carol Galton accompanies on the Welmar grand piano.

A young musician, playing for the first time in Crediton, will be Isobel Shoesmith, playing classical pieces by Chopin, Liszt and Debussy.

She is taught in Exeter by Russian pianist Polina Shifrina, who has played at earlier Music Makers’ events.

The Music Makers’ series began in July 2013, and has held a concert every three months since (this will be the 15th) - as well as a series of lunchtime recitals in August, and a popular New Year’s Day concert for young musicians.

Organiser Paul Vincent said: “These events provide an opportunity for locally-based musicians and ensembles to perform a single piece or  short set in front of a friendly and supportive audience.

“The music is wide-ranging, but focuses on piano, voice and traditional acoustic instruments.

“For the audience, it is a good way of hearing the works of many well-known composers, played live, as well as modern and occasionally experimental pieces. It is also a very pleasant way to spend an evening out, and newcomers are very welcome.”

Doors open from 6.30pm, with music starting at 7pm.

Admission is £7 (Under 16s free). Food and drink is also available, with a bowl of delicious hot food prepared by Eran of The Baobab café (£5 extra).
