TUESDAY, JULY 5 - SUNDAY, JULY 10

MAYPOLE Dancing, flower competitions, a Royal procession, dancing, exhibitions, parachuting teddy bears and circus skills are among the activities which will be a part of Lapford Revel 2016, taking place in the village from Tuesday, July 5 to Sunday, July 10.

On the Tuesday, Lapford and District Horticultural Society will hold its Rose and Sweet Pea Show in the Victory Hall, open to the public from 7.30pm.

Everyone is invited to gather at the Village Green on the Thursday to await the arrival of the Royal Procession, which will start at 6.45pm at the village car park and make its way to the green as the church bells ring.

Brady May will be crowned Revel King and Savannah Down as Revel Queen at 7.10pm. Crowners will be Barny Cockings and Phoebe Whyte.

Attendants will be Evie Lansdell, Bradley Barker, James Campbell-Rogers, Skye Elston, Sam Poole, Kitty Cran, Letheren Down, Emily Passmore, Jasmine Cairns, Eli Tanner, Thomas Gilpin and Izzy O’Callaghan.

After the ceremony there will be a dance display by Razzle D’s Cheer Squad and Maypole Dancing by children from Lapford Primary School.

That will be followed by a display by Winkleigh Morris.

That evening there will also be a sweet scramble, barbecue, bar, chips and ice creams available.

Friday sees a Revel Fun and Games Evening at the primary school organised by the Yeo Valley Christian Fellowship, beginning at 6.45pm.

Revel Day is Saturday, July 9, with events in the Victory Hall and in the Playing Field.

There will be the ceremonial opening of the Fayre at 1.30pm and at 2pm, a performance by Rob of Entertaingly Different, followed by circus skills and music by vocalist, Jessica Squire.

There will also be a performance by Kaled ZeBadi, magician and illusionist.

At 3.45pm, teddies will parachute from the church tower. Everyone is reminded to take along their teddies.

At 5pm there will be more from Entertainingly Different, then the grand draw and prize giving at 5.30pm and a musical evening will begin at 6.30pm on the field.

It will feature local artists and from 8pm, performances by Paul Adams.

The afternoon will include stalls, pony rides, children’s craft tent, tombola, barbecue, ice cream, chips and a bar.

Cream teas will be served in the hall, supplied by Yeo Valley Christian Fellowship from 2pm to 5pm and there will also be a table top sale.

There will be a flower display by local organisations in the church with a display of the Children’s Revel Art competition entries. The floral displays will celebrate the Queen’s 90th Birthday.

On the Sunday there will be a Songs of Praise Service at 6pm in St Thomas of Canterbury Church.
