UPMARKET pots and pans shop Le Creuset – a favourite of the Duchess of Sussex and other influencers and celebrities – is coming to Exeter city centre.

The company has applied to the city council for permission to change the signs over the door of 10 High Street from Claire’s Accessories to Le Creuset.

The unit opposite Castle Street has been closed since Claire’s went into administration in April. It was one of 154 stand-alone Claire’s stores across the UK and Ireland which had ceased trading by the end of the month.

Le Creuset is a premium French cookware manufacturer best known for its colourful cast-iron casseroles and Dutch oven heavy cooking pots.

Founded in 1925 in Fresnoy-le-Grand, the brand is said to have revolutionised the kitchenware industry by adding a vitreous enamel glaze to traditional cast iron, making it rust-resistant and easier to clean.

Many of its products come in the distinctive “volcanic” flame orange colour.

Each piece of cast iron is hand-finished by French artisans, leading Le Creuset products to sit at a luxury price point. However, users say they last for generations if cared for properly.

Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, showed off a collection of Le Creuset pieces on her recent Netflix show With Love, Meghan while Stanley Tucci is said to favour a powder-blue Le Creuset Dutch oven.

Gwyneth Paltrow regularly uses an eye-catching lime-green Le Creuset skillet in Instagram videos.

The company has recently been advertising online for an Exeter store manager, saying: “At Le Creuset, every dish begins with a story – and every story begins with people.
