REMEMBRANCE Sunday and Armistice Day are set to be marked in Crediton.
On Remembrance Sunday, November 8, there will be a special service at Crediton Parish Church, beginning at 10am.
Afterwards, a formal parade will form up on Union Road at 10.45am before proceeding to the war memorial.
A two-minute silence will be observed there at 11am, after which wreaths will be laid.
The Mayor of Crediton, the President and Chair of the Royal British Legion and Rev Matthew Tregenza will lead a short service at the war memorial.
An area has been reserved at the memorial for veterans unable to march but who want to attend the wreath-laying.
Members of the public are welcome to lay their own tributes on the north side of the memorial (let the parade marshal know before the parade begins).
Union Road, Lower High Street, Market Street and Parliament Street will be closed to traffic from 10.30am and some roads will not re-open until 12pm.
“Crediton Town Council and the Crediton Branch of the Royal British Legion are pleased to invite veterans, residents, local businesses and organisations to join us for our annual Remembrance Sunday service and parade,” said the two organisations in a joint statement.
“Remembrance Sunday is a local opportunity to remember the service and sacrifice of all those who have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life.
“We remember the Armed Forces, and their families, from Britain and the Commonwealth, the vital role played by the emergency services and those who have lost their lives because of conflict or terrorism.”
On Armistice Day, Wednesday, November 11, Crediton Town Council and the Crediton Branch of the Royal British Legion will observe a two-minute silence at the war memorial at 11am. Attendees should arrive 10 minutes early at 10.50am.
