AS we approach the end of October, we enter a period of thought and reflection at Crediton Parish Church during Remembrance season.
It begins with the dedication of the Garden of Remembrance on Saturday, October 24 at 10.50am in the churchyard at Holy Cross.
The short service of dedication is followed by poppy crosses being placed on the graves of 13 local men who died as a result of fighting in World War I – with four of the headstones maintained in the Parish Churchyard by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
The annual Civic Service of Remembrance will be held in Holy Cross Church at 10am on Sunday, November 8, concluding with the wreath laying at the Crediton Town and Hamlets War Memorial.
All serving personnel and ex- servicemen are invited to the service. If this applies to you and you wish to attend, please contact our parish administrator on 01363 773226 or email: [email protected] to reserve a seat.
Between these two events, the church marks All Souls' Day on Sunday, November 1.
It’s a time of prayer, remembrance, and thanksgiving dedicated to loved ones and all the faithful departed who have died.
The service includes the Reading of Names of the deceased, particularly those who have died in the past year, the Lighting of Candles in memory of family members and special Bible readings and prayers of intercession asking God for mercy, peace, and the gift of eternal life for the departed.
There are two All Souls Services taking place on Sunday, November 1 – 4pm at St Lawrence Chapel, Threshers and 6pm at Holy Cross.
If you would like a loved one to be remembered at the Holy Cross service, please add their name to the sheet on the magazine table in church.
