CREDITON’S community-owned bookshop is to make an appearance at Exeter’s yearly Book Market on the Cathedral Green.
The Bookery will join 11 other independent Devon bookshops at the event on Sunday, June 8, which will take place from 11am until 4pm.
This will be the fifth time the fair has been held since its inception in 2021.
Anna Cohn Orchard, Executive Director of Exeter City of Literature, which organises the Book Market, said: “Books have this incredible power—not just to transport us, but to connect us. And that’s what the Book Market is all about.
“It’s a celebration of stories, of readers and writers, and of independent booksellers coming together in one place.
“Whether you’re a lifelong reader or just discovering the joy of books, this is an event where everyone belongs.
“When we share stories, we build community. So come on down to explore, meet incredible writers and booksellers, and be part of something special!”
Catherine Hill, Head of Culture for Exeter City Council, said: “The Exeter City of Literature Book Market is a testament to our community's love for stories and creativity.
“It's a wonderful opportunity for people of all ages to come together, discover new books, and celebrate the vibrant literary culture that makes our city so special.
“We look forward to welcoming everyone to this year's event and continuing to foster a love of reading and storytelling in Exeter.”
This year there will be an expanded selection of vendors offering free literary-themed activities, crafts and food and drink.
Previous years have featured bite-sized bibliotherapy sessions, comic-making workshops, a wheelchair-powered letterpress and memoir-writing tasters. Last year, Sunday Times bestseller and University of Exeter graduate Esmie Jikiemi-Pearson, Reese Witherspoon Book Club Pick author Sarah Pearse, and Bridport prize-winning novelist Fiona Williams came along.
