THIS summer, The Bookery is proud to present a vibrant season of literary events, bringing together four exceptional female authors.
The season opens on Thursday, June 25 at Crediton Congregational Church with award-winning novelist and nature writer Melissa Harrison, discussing her luminous new novel The Given World with Dr Michael Warren. Known for her profoundly observant writing on landscape and belonging, Harrison’s work offers an intimate and thought-provoking start to the series, set against the evocative backdrop of one of Crediton’s most atmospheric venues.
On Thursday, July 9, the focus shifts to The Bookery, with Amelia Blackwell bringing a lively blend of literary history and mystery with The Haunting of a Brontë. In conversation with Devon crime writer Stephanie Austin, this promises an engaging evening of humour, intrigue and gothic atmosphere, inspired by the enduring fascination of the Brontë sisters.
The season continues on Friday, July 17 at Crediton Library, where The Bookery, in partnership with Sustainable Crediton, is delighted and proud to welcome Minette Batters in conversation with Devon farmer and Chair of the Devon County Agricultural Association, Andy Gray. Batters reflects on leadership, resilience and the future of farming in her powerful and timely book Harvest, offering a compelling and deeply personal perspective on rural life and the national conversation around food and farming.
Finally, on Thursday, July 23, bestselling novelist Harriet Evans visits The Bookery to discuss The Treasures, the opening of her much-anticipated Sevenstones Trilogy. Sweeping across generations and continents, her work captures the enduring pull of family, memory and home, bringing the season to a richly satisfying close.
It would be a joy to see these events well supported and to share in what promises to be a memorable and uplifting summer of ideas and conversation.
Tickets are available from The Bookery or via thebookery.org.uk.
