THE Bookery is delighted to welcome back a long-standing beloved patron, Ann Cleeves OBE - one of Britain’s most celebrated crime writers - for a special pre-publication event at Crediton Methodist Church to mark the launch of her new novel, The Dying Light.

Chaired by bestselling thriller writer C.M. Ewan, the evening of Thursday, October 1 from 7pm will offer readers the opportunity to hear Ann discuss her latest work and be among the first to purchase a signed copy.

Set in North Devon, The Dying Light sees Detective Matthew Venn investigating the discovery of a young woman’s body in the swimming pool of a luxury holiday home. When the victim’s best friend disappears and the property is linked to an ambitious political figure, media attention intensifies. As a heatwave grips the region and further tragedy unfolds, Venn uncovers a community divided by secrets, hidden loyalties and simmering tensions.

Ann Cleeves is the author of more than forty acclaimed novels and one of the most successful crime writers working today. Her iconic detectives Vera Stanhope, Jimmy Perez and Matthew Venn have inspired the hugely popular television series Vera, Shetland and The Long Call, reaching audiences around the world. In 2017 she received the Crime Writers’ Association Diamond Dagger, the genre’s highest honour, and in 2022 was awarded an OBE for services to reading and libraries.

Joining Ann on stage will be C.M. Ewan, the bestselling author of numerous acclaimed thrillers including Eye Spy, Safe House, The House Hunt, The Interview and Dark Tides.

Following the conversation, both authors will meet audience members and sign copies of their books, giving readers the chance to chat with two of the country’s most accomplished crime and thriller writers.
