A CONSERVATIVE Party fundraiser, held at Coldridge Village Hall on Friday, October 13, was a resounding success with more than 50 local party members and supporters attending.

The annual Michaelmas Supper, which has taken place for 30 years, was hosted by Coldridge branch chairman and Central Devon Conservative Association president Jeremy Lee, with Central Devon MP Mel Stride as guest speaker.

Mr Lee spoke about the history of Michaelmas and its role as one of two main dates in the agricultural calendar, where rents were paid, farms changed hands and the traditional Michaelmas goose was eaten.

Mr Stride then spoke about Theresa’s May first few months as Prime Minister and answered questions on the economy, Brexit negotiations and the ongoing Civil War in Syria.

Mr Lee said: “A wonderful supper was enjoyed by all and Mel’s speech on topical political issues was very interesting. We hope the event will have raised £1,000.”

Mr Stride added: “It is an exciting time to be involved with politics at the moment with a new Prime Minister with such a strong commitment to ensuring that government works for the many not just the few.”
