COPPLESTONE Primary School has said that it has sustained vandalism in recent weeks.

In a statement published on Facebook the School said: “We are really disappointed to report that our school fencing has been damaged on numerous occasions over the last 4-5 weeks.

“Our school caretaker has taken considerable time and care to repair the fence panels and ensure that all clips are securely fastened. Unfortunately, we have discovered further damage, with additional panels bent and many of the clips broken off once again.

“This repeated vandalism and criminal damage to school property is completely unacceptable.

“Our school environment should be a safe and secure space for our pupils, staff and wider school community, and this damage is both frustrating and costly to repair.

“The matter has been reported and our local Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) visited school on Monday morning.

“It is being processed as criminal damage and we will receive a Crime Reference number in due course.

“If you have witnessed anything or have any additional information that will support the investigation, please could you make contact with us at school.

“Thank you for your co-operation in helping us to protect our school and maintain a safe environment for our children and the wider community.”

Copplestone Primary School was rated good at the last Ofsted in July 2022 and good in all areas.

At that time it had 141 pupils and it is a smaller than average-sized primary school.

The proportion of pupils with education, health and care plans is well above average.

The school includes a pre-school unit, which is on site and admits children aged to to five years.

The school is part of the Devon Moors Federation of six primary schools.
