ART Plus Frames Gallery at 18 High Street, Crediton is proud to host a unique exhibition celebrating the work of one of Devon's most respected and enduring artists.
John Hurford – 60 Years in Art, runs until November 12 and brings together more than 60 original artworks, offering visitors a rare opportunity to explore the remarkable breadth of John's artistic career, spanning over six decades.

Born in 1948 and raised on a farm near Chulmleigh, John Hurford is a self-taught artist whose work became closely associated with the British psychedelic art movement of the 1960s.
His illustrations appeared in the influential underground publications Oz, Gandalf's Garden and International Times.
His work has been exhibited internationally and featured in collections including the Victoria and Albert Museum, with exhibitions at Tate Liverpool and the Whitney Museum in New York.
Nature has always been at the heart of Hurford's art. Birds, insects, flowers, fungi and fantastical creatures inhabit richly detailed worlds inspired by a lifetime spent observing the Devon countryside. His work combines extraordinary technical skill with imagination, creating images that are both deeply rooted in nature and wonderfully dreamlike.
Among the highlights of the exhibition are several large-scale paintings from John's recent Supernature series. These ambitious works immerse the viewer in vibrant ecosystems where reality and imagination merge, representing the culmination of a lifelong fascination with the natural world.
The exhibition also includes a remarkable collection of paintings inspired by John's time in Malaysia, where he spent time with the indigenous Batek people of the rainforest.
These highly detailed and intensely colourful works reflect the biodiversity of the tropical rainforest and the artist's deep interest in humanity's relationship with nature and traditional cultures.
Due to the scale of the exhibition, works are displayed both in the gallery and in an additional upstairs exhibition space.
Opening times are Tuesday – Friday: 9am – 5pm Saturday: 10am – 3pm.
