Cakes and refreshments were served and there were a number of stalls and activities including an egg and spoon race and a dressing-up race.
Mr Read was presented with leaving gifts and a book of memories where the children gave their comments.
In his leaving speech Mr Read said: "I don’t know what I was thinking of wishing to leave Landscore - the last 11 years have been the best of my life!
"I have spent 35 years working with children and I still have six years to give but Landscore is ready for someone else to lead it."
He added: "I have absolutely loved working with the children and staff and I will miss everyone at Landscore immensely."
