SENIOR golf players are being sought by Downes Crediton Golf Club to increase the number of seniors, which is currently about 25 per cent of the membership.

Seniors' day is Mondays, when competitions are played with the first tee reserved from about 8am up until midday, depending on the number of entries.

There are a number of trophy competitions, for individuals and teams, that are played throughout the year, with medal competitions taking place from April to October.

On Mondays, when there is no specific competition scheduled, an individual, qualifying stableford takes place.

Senior players are not restricted and can enter all other club competitions as they wish.

A senior team plays home and away matches against some 15 other clubs and interested players can sign up to a list, where a place in the team is shared around as much as possible by the captain.

Although the golf is excellent, the social side of the seniors is even better.

There is a roll-up every Wednesday and Friday, organised within the group, which starts at 10am.

Downes Crediton Golf Club has had a section for the ladies since 1973 and has a keen group of friendly women play golf together on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and at weekends.

Some have no handicaps and are learning the game and skills. A professional is on hand to give lessons and members also help each other.

Some ladies have handicaps ranging from 12 to 36 and are able to play social, mixed and competitive golf in a beautiful environment on a well designed and maintained course.

A pre-season dinner is included in the calendar to welcome the new season and new members, with a more formal dinner at the end of the season when competition prizes are presented.
