CREDITON United Football Club and Crediton Lions are combining to organise a Race Night to raise funds for the football club and Crediton Lions on Saturday, May 31.

It will take place at Crediton United FC Clubhouse at Lords Meadow, with doors opening at 6pm and the first race at 7pm.

There will be eight races featuring eight horses in each race with the races shown on big screens throughout the clubhouse.

Guests at the event will be able to back their favourite to win and the Lions “TOTE” will calculate the winning payouts.

At least 50 per cent is returned to the winners.

Each bet will be at just £1, but of course you can back as many horses as you like.

Go along with a pocket of coins and have a good time helping both Lions and the Football Club maintain its clubhouse.

Guests of all ages will be assured of a fun evening with races sponsored by a number of local companies, from LeRoy Funerals to Rose Removals, from Graphics to Crediton Milling and from Gilbert Stephens to South West Galvanisers.

Race cards will be available with humorous and unusual names from “Don’t Dilly Dally” (Rose removals) to “Chips with everything” (Graphic plc), LeRoy’s clock in with “So long it’s been good to know you” and finally SW galvaniser’s “Zinced out”.

On some races you will be able to buy your own horse and become the “Winning Owner”.

Entry is just £3, pasties and drinks will be available.

The Lion’s Club is part of the largest Service club organisation in the world.

Shortly Crediton Lions will be bringing “Lions Child Sight UK” to the area.

The aim is to bring vision screening to children in the UK and help to identify sight problems before they become serious.

It matters because up to 10 per cent of children have an undiagnosed vision problem.

Studies show that children with corrected vision can improve their academic performance by up to 40 per cent.

Figures suggest 90 per cent of vision issues can be corrected if detected early.

Lions in the UK aim to screen more than 100,000 children in the first year, helping them get the eye care they need for better learning and development.

The message is GET INVOLVED, join in making a difference.

There are almost 10,000 members in the UK and 1.5 million worldwide.

Go along to the Race Nite, have some fun and help both the Football Club and Crediton Lions which has served the local community as it has done for the past 47 years.
