THE Leader of Mid Devon District Council, Cllr Peter Hare-Scott, from Crediton, performed the official opening of Zeal Monachorum Parish Church fete.

The event was held in Zeal Monachorum Village Hall due to the inclement weather, but this did not dampen the spirit of those attending.

There was a great deal of fun for competitors and spectators, from the Human Fruit Machine, expertly performed by Debbie Stericker, Lois Hamilton and Janet Brealy.

There was also intrigue from a card game, which was won, eventually, by John Bishop!

Cllr Hare-Scott received a buttonhole from Elise Parkinson (8), as a "thank you" for opening the fete. He also judged the children's fancy dress competition.

There were many stalls and a draw and Peter Aster played a melodeon to entertain those who went along.

A total of £705 was raised for St Peter's Church, Zeal Monachorum.
