YOUNG people are being invited to take part in the Rotary Young Photographer Competition.

With instant results, the digital camera has revolutionised photography, ending the concept that the camera never lies.

As a talent and art form, Rotary celebrates the photographic skills of thousands of young people with a sequence of competitions that give them the chance to demonstrate and display what they can produce.

There are three age groups in the competition (7-10, 11-13 and 14-17 years, as on August 31, 2016) and entrants are required to produce a portfolio of three photographs based on the theme “Reflection”.

The winners of the local heat being run by the Rotary Club of Crediton Boniface will be submitted to Rotary’s district competition covering Devon and Cornwall, and the best entries in that competition will be forwarded to compete nationally.

Entrance is free and certificates will be awarded to everyone taking part, with special recognition being given to those meeting appropriate standards.

Escalating prizes of a photographic nature will be awarded to the winners at each level of the competition, starting with prizes at the local heat given to the winner of each age category to the approximate value of £25.

Prints should be colour or black and white and on photographic paper. Prints to be submitted separately. Each print, including any mount, should be no larger than A4 size. The photos must be the work of the young photographer.

Local schools have been approached to invite entrants in addition to inviting entrants from the community.
