CREDITON’S bumper bi-annual festival, CredFest 2017, began today, Saturday, June 3, with a parade of the glorious town flags, led by Exeter Street Band, from Newcombes Meadow to the Town Square, where Crediton Town Band welcomed those taking part.

There was an announcement by the Town Crier, Kevin Payne, who said:

“Lords, ladies, residents and visitors to Crediton, thespians, musicians, flag bearers and artistes,

The time is upon us so call out and cheer

Your wait is now over for CredFest is here!

A packed programme of events is opening henceforth,

starting right here tonight until June 24th.

O’er these next three weeks through both day and the eve

There are sights, tastes and sounds that you will not believe

Musicians, cinema, young and art,

There are numerous ways that you all can take part,

Join the silent disco or partake of a show

Entertainment’s aplenty wherever you go

With such a variety in case you’ve not guessed

You’re bound to be happy ‘cause CredFest’s the best

So welcome one, welcome all, CredFest has begun

Eat, drink, be merry and join in the fun

Now to formally open this celebratory affair

Please show your appreciation for Frank Letch, your mayor

God Save the Queen!”

Mr Letch opened the festival and said that it includes some unusual and new and exciting activities, many free-of-charge.
