Crediton’s Redvers Ramble promoted
MEMBERS of Crediton Town Council’s Parish Paths committee held a procession through Crediton High Street on Saturday, June 29, to help promote the Redvers Ramble.
The Redvers Ramble is a moderate, 2.3 mile route, with one steep slope on the trek that was trail-blazed by Heather Sansom, a parish path volunteer and former Crediton Town councillor.
It was given the name Redvers Ramble due to the historical links with General Sir Redvers Henry Buller, who was born in 1839 at the family estate of Downes, near Crediton and is buried in the churchyard at the Holy Cross Church.
He was a British army officer and an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to the British and Commonwealth forces.
Crediton Town Councillor Mike Szabo recently said: “This Ramble is an excellent opportunity to experience our lovely local countryside, meet new people and walk off the extra pounds.”
A leaflet about the ramble can be found at many business outlets in Crediton, as well as Crediton Town Council office in North Street and the "Crediton Courier" office at 102 High Street.
