DEE Lalljee, manager of Crediton Community Bookshop, hosted a visit by Peter Poole of Brighton, the talented designer and artist who created “Otterly Alice”.
The specific purpose for his visit on July 6 was to make a short film featuring “Alice” and Crediton which will be available on “YouTube” later this month.
Dee kindly made the shop and office available for Peter’s use.
There is currently a steady stream of visitors seeking “Alice,” who have fun taking photographs of themselves with the very appealing lifesize model and it is hoped that the school holidays will bring excited children.
“Alice” is part of the 100 individually designed otters on a huge fun trail.
Heather Sansom, who orchestrated the Dartmoor National Park Public Arts Initiative for Crediton, accompanied Peter on a brief impromptu tour of the town’s highlights and provided a concise history.
Beatrice of Crediton Library welcomed Peter to the town and the wildflowers in Newcombes Meadow by the St Boniface statue were much admired.
At the Parish Church Peter was welcomed by Mary who just happened to be concluding her cleaning duties!
Heather explained the significance of the Redvers Buller Memorial and gave Peter a Redvers Ramble leaflet (her “legacy” to the town) as a souvenir of his visit.
Peter showed considerable knowledge of a brief dowsing demonstration at the crossing of the Mary/Michael leylines at the point where the Tower is located, and it is hoped that the booklet which the Church usually sells on that subject will soon be available again so that a copy can be forwarded to Peter.
An appetising lunch was enjoyed in The Town Square on the bright sunny day - then it was back to work at the Bookshop for Dee and Heather to make the voice-overs for the film.
“Alice” will remain on location at the Bookshop in all her glory until September.
