Devon Cup
Crediton 35
Totnes 14
CREDITON hosted Totnes in the last 16 of the Devon Cup on a cloudy and blustery morning.
After heavy overnight rain, whilst wet, the pitch held up well and allowed for a free flowing game of two halves given the slope and wind direction.
Crediton chose to have first use of the slope and elements.
The opening exchanges proved to be very even with both sets of forwards being evenly matched and Totnes if anything edging the line outs.
Ollie Avery – Wright was having a very influential game at fly half and it was through his continued promptings and astute kicking that Crediton started gaining good possession in the Totnes half.
The first try came after a break from Ollie, finished off by second row Dan Yendell.
The Crediton team then realised that they had the better of Totnes in the backs and through good handling moves scored three further first half tries by backs Harry Strong, Matt Rendell and Ollie Down.
The second half was always going to be a very different affair with Crediton now having to play into the wind and up the slope.
The home team played very well to hold Totnes for the first 10 minutes and then made the game safe with a try from loose play from flanker Jamie Mckenzie.
Ollie Avery – Wright capped a fine individual game by converting from wide out to make it five conversions out of five. Totnes to their credit did not give up and game storming back using the elements well to score two tries of their own in the final ten minutes.
Crediton 10
Crediton hosted Okehampton immediately after their cup success against Totnes and utilised their large squad to rest some of those who had played the previous full game. Games with Okehampton are always tight affairs and this proved no different with two evenly matched teams.
Once again Crediton started with the elements in their favour and regularlyforced Okehampton back into their own half.
The Okehampton defence held firm, however and it was a penalty from Ollie Avery–Wright plus a Harry Strong try, converted by Ollie Avery-Wright, that separated the teams at half time (10-0).
Okehampton then used the elements and pressed hard and scored a very good long-range converted try from well inside their own half to bring the score to 10 – 7 halfway through the half.
Crediton held firm however and despite some strong Okehampton pressure held on for a good win.

Okehampton 10
Crediton 26
Crediton Under 16's kept up their 100 per cent league record with an impressive performance at Okehampton.
Playing into a strong wind in the first half, they turned round 3-0 down, following a penalty for crossing.
But it only took a minute of the second half to score, Henry Nuthall going over for a try following a strong drive after a scrum.
Minutes later, they extended the lead when scrum half Matt Lewis crossed.
Josh Lee converted both tries.
Okehampton pulled back to 14-10 with a converted try, but Crediton finished strongest, with two more tries from Nuthall and Lewis.
With injuries and absences, Crediton turned out with the bare 15 players and great credit must go to the whole team.
