THE Crediton Youth Orchestra (CYO), conducted by Alison Golby, will present a concert on Saturday, July 7, at Crediton Congregational Church, starting at 6.30pm.

Admission is free and refreshments will be available. All members of the public are welcome.

The orchestra, of around 30 members is made up of pupils from many local primary schools as well as students from Queen Elizabeth’s School.

Founded in January 2017, its aim is to bring young instrumentalists together from the Crediton area and provide exciting ensemble music-making opportunities.

The orchestra will be playing a varied programme, including “Seven Nation Army” (The White Stripes), “Circle of Life” (“The Lion King”) and “In the Hall of the Mountain King” (Edvard Grieg). Several of the young musicians will also be playing solos.

“CYO is open to new members at any time,” says Alison, “whether you can play just a few notes or have passed Grade 8. We have both, and everything in between! We also provide opportunities for our more experienced musicians to take on leadership roles within the orchestra.”

Rehearsals take place at the QES Music Department after school on Wednesdays during term-time. Just visit our website: Creditonyouthorchestra.com , or contact Alison Golby on: [email protected] for more information.

The orchestra works with schools in the Crediton area, encouraging children to learn a musical instrument.

From September it will be launching its new “Big Play Project”, which will provide an opportunity for children and adults to learn an instrument from scratch and be in a band at the same time.

The orchestra gratefully acknowledges the support of the Devon Music Education Hub and Crediton Town Council, as well as the QE Music Department for the use of rehearsal space and equipment.
