ON Saturday, February 19, three Crediton girls, Eva Parsons, Daisy Couzens and Poppy Couzens helped launch the appeal by Exeter’s St Petrock’s Place to support work to combat homelessness and housing insecurity in Devon from their new Sustainable Fashion Hub on Paris Street, Exeter.

Eva, Daisy and Poppy learned more about the work of the charity whilst taking part in Significant Seams’ youth pilot programme “Craftivism Club”, an initiative funded by Crediton Town Council.

One young person has said of the club: “I like the fact that I’m able to try something new: things I wouldn’t be able to do at home."

The young people learned to make “freestyle” patchwork bags over three of the 12 club sessions.

After learning about the scale of homelessness and housing insecurity in Devon, Lucy Patrick (St Petrock’s), Eva, Daisy and Poppy decided to donate their bags to St Petrock’s to sell to raise money for the charity.

Additionally, on Saturday. February 20, they volunteered during the appeal, making more bags as well as fabric brooches, and sharing “how-to” with other supporters and shoppers, including the Lord Mayor of Exeter.

Later in the spring, Significant Seams and St Petrock’s will be releasing a free pattern to enable more supporters to help St Petrock’s in this way.

In the meantime, Significant Seams will be hosting a donation-based stall sharing how to make scrap fabric flower brooches at the annual Sustainable Crediton Seed Swap tomorrow, Saturday, February 26.

They are also offering to fund a hot lunch for Crediton young people who get Free School meals. Secure a voucher for the free hot lunch at: https://bit.ly/freeseedsharelunch
