HOPES of finding a way to improve traffic management on Crediton High Street are growing for Crediton Town Council.
For many months the council has been working towards producing a strategy, and now funding has been found and consultants appointed.
At a recent meeting of the town council’s Town Strategy Committee, members were told there would be an exhibition, with various groups taking part, covering a range of topics including air quality, with a workshop later this month.
Reporting back on the Health and Well-Being day in April organised by the town council, it was said that most of those who went along had found it useful, providing a link for several groups with other such groups.
The committee approved a funding payment of £9,200 to Crediton Methodist Church for the youth cafe and detached youth work programme for 2018/2019.
Looking at the current threats faced by community transport in Devon, Cllr Nick Way told the committee that the county council officers "were working overtime" to try to sort this across Devon.
Members were told that a meeting with the police, Devon Highways and others was to be held to see what, if anything, could be done about safety issues arising from vehicles parking outside Early Birds Nursery on Landscore.
Cllr Way said there was still a problem with vehicles being parked on the pavement at Greenway when children were being dropped off for the Nursery.
PLANNING
Approval was recommended for an application to replace a flat roof over a single storey living accommodation at 18 Prince of Wales Road with a pitched roof for Mr and Mrs Martin.
Members had no objection to the following planning applications: Listed Building Consent for alterations to the ground floor and building a porch at the back of 106 High Street for Mr C Reed of Reed Construction and Developments Limited.
Erection of a garage at 14 Winswood for Mr M Deem.
Advertisement Consent to display one illuminated totem pole sign and poster light box, three non-illuminated and two illuminated fascia signs plus other signs at the new Mole Avon building on Joseph Locke Way.
Listed Building Consent for alterations to the internal first floor layout plus internal repairs and alterations and restoration of a window at 52 High Street for Mr C Betts of 23 Devonshire Place, Exeter.
It was noted that Mid Devon District Council had approved the application for change of use and to convert the former Barclays Bank building on Market Street into two dwellings, plus Listed Building Consent.
