CREDITON Town Council budgets a sum of money every financial year for grants to local voluntary or charitable organisations where the activities will contribute to, and be of benefit to, the life or community and support the people of Crediton.

This year, to-date, it has approved grants to the value of £43,089 and many of the organisation recipients gathered to acknowledge their allocation with Crediton Mayor, Cllr Steve Huxtable, ahead of this year’s Annual Town Meeting.

Recipient organisations and the amount allocated for 2025-2026 was: Crediton Talking News £350, Crediton and District Lions Club £550, St Boniface Concert Society £600, Involve Voluntary Action in Mid Devon £480.

Crediton Arts Centre (Busk IT!) £700, Crediton Town Band £700, North Creedy Choral Society £700, Crediton Operatic and Dramatic Society £700, Crediton Bowling Club £700, Crediton BAPS £700, Crediton International Social and Cultural Organisation £864.

Crediton Arts Centre £1,000, Crediton Heart Project, £1,000, Crediton Youth Theatre £1,000, Crediton Area History and Museum Society £1,500, Journey Counselling Service £1,500, Welcoming Refugees in Crediton £1,500, Sustainable Crediton £1,600.

Crediton RFC £1,700, Crediton Youth Football Club £1,800, The Bookery £1,925, Crediton Heart Project (Summer Festival) £2,000, The Turning Tides Project £2,000.

Involve Voluntary Action in Mid Devon (Community Builder Project) £2,520, The Folklore Library and Archive £3,000, Citizens Advice Torridge, North, Mid and West Devon £3,000, Churches Housing Action Team £3,000, Crediton Youth Orchestra £3,000, Mid Devon Mobility £3,000.

The Annual Town Meeting was held outdoors in The Town Square and everyone was invited to attend.

The formal meeting began at 6.30pm but there were councillors and staff there to talk to from 6pm.

The meeting included a welcome and introduction by Cllr Huxtable after which the 2024 meeting minutes were approved.

After that was Public Participation, a chance for people to ask questions and raise issues.
