A FLAG-raising ceremony in support of Armed Forces Day took place at the Council offices, Market Street, Crediton, on Monday, June 25.
Armed Forces Day takes place on Saturday, June 30 and is a day when the whole nation is invited to show support for our military community, both serving and retired, at home and abroad.
Crediton Town Council flies the Armed Forces flag for the duration of the week leading up to Armed Forces Day, from the Council offices, by kind permission of Mid Devon District Council and with the support of the Crediton branch of the Royal British Legion.
The Mayor of Crediton, Cllr Frank Letch, said he was pleased that the council was able to recognise the efforts of members of the Armed Forces, past and present.
He said he was delighted that members of the local Royal British Legion and some ex-RAF staff attended the flag raising.
Mr Letch added that he always enjoyed meeting the veterans who attended the flag raising ceremony.
He said that his father was among those who had served.
Mr Letch added: “It was such a nice event and co-incided with the centenary of the termination of the First World War.
“I was especially pleased that students from Queen Elizabeth’s School, Cameron Fahy, Esme Scott and Joseph Bastin, were able to attend.
“The crowd seems to get bigger and bigger every year at the flag raising, which is great.”
