THE Community Carols in The Square was a huge success for the second year when a large crowd enjoyed the event.

It was hosted by Crediton Town Band to raise funds for Age Concern Crediton & District.

People of all ages turned up to sing carols and to hear festive readings and stories by Tina Guthrie, Jo Ward, John Musty and the Rev Preb Nigel Gurthie, who also led the event.

A number of community choirs took part in the event. Help and support on the night came from Crediton Boniface Rotary Club who provided the refreshments, Crediton Lions Club who collected donations at the request of the Town Band.

Crediton Community Transport and Friends of the Town Band also supported the carol singing event.

Chris Richards, musical director of the band, thanked Rev Nigel Guthrie for all his help over the years and presented him with a gift.

Father Christmas made a surprise visit when he arrived in a fire engine and handed sweets out to the children.

Printed carol sheets were available for a donation of at least £1, and bucket collections were also made to raise funds for Age Concern Crediton & District, an independent local charity which aims to support and improve the quality of life for people in the 50 plus age group living in Crediton and the surrounding villages.

The Crediton Town Band Community Carols provided a great opportunity for the community to join together to celebrate Christmas and promote a festive spirit.
