THE First Crediton Scout Group held a group camp at Downes on the edge of Crediton as part of its 110th birthday celebrations from July 19 to 21.

More than 40 Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Leaders camped there for the weekend and were joined by parents and siblings for a family activity day on the Saturday.

This kicked off with a falconry display, then six activity bases on the theme of "Back to the Future"; traditional scouting pioneering and woodwork activities to represent "past", a giant water slide and model car building / racing for "present", and making ecobricks and playing human space invaders for "future".

After the evening meal all 100-plus attendees gathered around a campfire for presentations to long-serving Crediton Scout, Scout Master and now Assistant District Commissioner Scout George Davey (who was awarded the BEM for services to Scouting), also Chief Scout Bronze and Silver Awards, and the annual “most helpful”, “most considerate”, “smartest” and “most fun” Beaver, Cub and Scout awards.

On the Sunday, the boys set off on a series of hikes and navigation challenges, before packing up camp and having a final go on the water slide.

Everyone who attended received a special blanket badge and all the young members, Leaders and families had a brilliant time.

Crediton is very lucky to have such a dedicated leadership team who all pulled together to make the weekend happen and had a huge amount of fun in the process!

They were also very grateful to Henry Parker for allowing them to camp at Downes.

Receiving the Bronze Awards were: Reuben Home, Daniel Cavanagh, Ethan Whetton, Toby Morgan and Elliott Russell.

Silver Awardees: Ciaran Noon, Daniel Whetton, James Morgan, Oliver Slyfield.
