Crediton RBL member marches at the London Cenotaph

DEREK Shapland, a member of Crediton branch of the Royal British Legion, marched with the RAF Police contingent on Remembrance Sunday at the Cenotaph in London, joining thousands of veterans, for the parade.

Derek also laid a wreath on behalf of a member of the RAF Police.

Derek said that those taking part in the parade have to be on Horseguards Parade ground by 9.15am, after going through a security check, before marching off at just after 10am for Whitehall.

He explained that there they lined up and waited for the start, and he added that it was very, very cold.

After returning from the Cenotaph, those taking part marched back to Horseguards Parade ground to be formally dismissed by HRH Prince Edward.

Afterwards the RAF Police members and their families met at the Silver Cross in Whitehall for a buffet lunch.

On the Saturday evening, Derek and his partner, Margaret Tucker attended the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall, which they said was one of the very best they have attended.
