HILLBROW Care Home is currently closed to visitors to protect its residents during the pandemic.

The Home recently posted on various Crediton Facebook groups asking for letters and drawings for the residents so they did not feel so cut off from the outside world.

To say they had an overwhelming response is an understatement!

So far, they have had more than 150 letters, notes, drawings and photos and more post is coming every day.

The residents have loved reading every single one and a group gathers in the garden every afternoon to go through the new batch of letters and to write replies.

The letters have mainly been from children, telling the residents about their lives during lockdown and asking how the residents are. There have been beautiful drawings of pets and lots of rainbows, descriptions of their families, favourite holidays, hobbies and delicious meals.

There has also been lots of advice on how the residents can stay healthy, exercise tips, reminders to wash hands and to stay safe!

A few children made questionnaires to find out more about the residents and enclosed stamped envelopes so they could get a reply. Children who have been in school since lockdown started have also been busy writing to the residents with lots coming from Hayward’s, Landscore, Chulmleigh Community College and Great Torrington schools.

Joanna Foulstone, Director of Hillbrow, said: “When we first thought about asking for letters, we thought we may get a few but the response we have had has been amazing.

“We’d like to thank every single person who has taken the time to write to us and send us beautiful pictures and photos.

“Our residents have been so touched by all the letters and it’s been really important to them to know that people outside are thinking about them.

“Crediton really has a fantastic community and it is lovely to be part of this.”
