TO commemorate the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings on June 6, 1944, a lively music and song evening was held in Crediton’s Town Square, on Thursday, June 6, from 5pm to 8pm.

There were a number of stalls and stands, music from Crediton Town Band and two sisters, Anita Wells-Cock and Isobel King, who sing as duo “Ice and a Slice”.

All the favourite hits from the 1940’s were sung or played and for one song the sisters sang and the band played together.

There were interesting displays of military memorabilia from the era, including Jeep’s and motorbikes from that time.

The Royal British Legion had an informative and impressive stand.

The local branch of the Air Cadets, which included many of the Crediton Cadets, also had a stand.

A challenging word search tested some of those who went along.

A number of speeches were made recalling D-Day, the sacrifices made by so many, and life in the services.

A celebration cake was cut by Crediton RBL member John Higgs (96) and the youngest Crediton Air Cadet present, Fynn Schuster (12).
