THE corridors at Landscore Primary School in Crediton were buzzing on Monday, June 12 with the excited chatter of pupils showing their families the art work they had completed during the whole school Art Week, held the previous week.

Art Week saw pupils moving around the school and working with various teachers as they undertook a journey of exploration visiting different countries learning about their art styles and famous artists.

Children “travelled” to Australia, where they used the traditional aboriginal style dot art to decorate canvases; they went to Mexico and made a felted wall hanging in a traditional Mexican Folk art style; to Japan where they learnt about the contemporary artist Yayoi Kusama and made large mod-roc flowers, and they visited Spain where they learnt about Gaudi and made mosaics.

The week was enjoyed by all the children and the staff.

“We have loved being able to run Art Week fully this year,” said headteacher, Debbie Main.

“It was lovely seeing the children enjoying so many creative experiences and collaborating on large scale art projects as well as developing some vibrant art pieces in their sketch books.”

Families were not only invited to visit the exhibition but were invited to create elements for it in the family challenge which was set over the half-term break.

Taking inspiration from artists who work with natural materials, families were challenged to make their own natural artwork.

Olivia, a Year 3 pupil said: “We had an incredible week, the highlight of the week was making the Brazilian inspired collages.

“It was brilliant being able to show my family all we had done too.”

The art work is now being prepared to be displayed around the school.
