SOME people who parked in Market Street in Crediton who may have received parking tickets issued by Devon County Council civil enforcement wardens are being advised that they may be able to appeal against their ticket.
Just after Christmas a “Disabled Parking only” sign was placed on a pillar in Market Street close to Crediton Post Office.
Earlier this week the sign was removed.
Crediton Mayor, Cllr Frank Letch, said he believes that no official Traffic Orders were put in place for the sign and said he believed the sign was not placed with the appropriate approval.
He suggested that those people who received parking tickets at that location should appeal.
Dan Webb, from the nearby Crediton Coffee Company, said the sign was bolted to the lamp post but has since been removed.
He said: “It is a very unusual situation. Crediton Town Council cannot recall any Traffic Orders for the sign and no restricted markings were placed on the road surface, making parking tickets at the location void.”
He also suggested people appeal the parking tickets at the location.
In addition, one road sign in Crediton High Street, has been defaced, which is likely to make tickets issued at the location void.
The “No” on the sign has been removed and it is believed this could mean tickets could be appealed with success.
