Prayers were said and wreaths laid during a short service at the town’s war memorial on Friday morning, August 15.

Later the same day, Crediton Town Council held a free tea party for children in the Town Square.

There were craft activities and youngsters enjoyed listening to a storyteller. Under-10s were given a free ice cream.

The service at the war memorial was organised by Crediton Town Council, Crediton Parish Church, and the Crediton branch of the Royal British Legion. The Crediton RBL branch also contributed to the cost of the free ice creams at the afternoon event.

VJ Day or Victory in Japan Day celebrates the end of the Second World War.
