An eye witness, who was walking his dog, told the "Courier" at the scene: "The accident happened almost an hour ago, at about 11.30pm (Monday, October 17).

"A blue car was driving up the High Street really fast and hit a white car coming out of St Saviour’s Way before going across the road and straight into a parked van.

"The van was hit really hard and the back of it was pushed up across the pavement into the buildings by the blue car."

The blue car was a Ford Fiesta.

The van which came to rest crashed into the front of Le Roy Funeral Services at 95 High Street, Crediton and Thomas Westcott, chartered accountants at 96 High Street, was a blue Ford Transit. Another parked vehicle, a VW Passat was also damaged during the road accident.

The white vehicle involved was a Peugeot 208.

Police closed the road as a crime scene and traffic was diverted via alternative routes.
