SHOPPERS at Crediton’s Tesco and patients visiting the Redlands surgery will have noticed the large marquee and storage container appear on the empty plot of land nearby.

They have been installed by the Crediton Heart Project to house its three-week summer programme of creative activities and events.

Activities to-date have included a collage workshop, guitar sessions, writing and pottery workshops, ceramic sculpture and cyanotype printing.

There has been a junk band workshop and others include willow sculpture, drama, junk band, graffiti art, songwriting, jewellery upcycling and robot making.

Each workshop costs £5 for adults and £3 for under 16s.  For more details and to book tickets visit the Crediton In and Around website: www.creditoninandaround.co.uk .

The programme will also include two free “Music in the Marquee” events featuring local musicians.

On Friday, August 12 Crediton Arts Centre presented “The Wee Free Men”, well-known locally for their particular brand of Cajun and bluegrass-influenced folk. They were supported by guitarist Ian “Slide” Edgar and teenage singing sensation from Shobrooke, Jess Hampson.

On Friday, August 19, the popular “Moonshine Serenaders” will entertain with their light hearted swing jazz, blues and ragtime.  The concert will begin at 7pm with parking available in Tesco’s car park.

The Heart Project is a local charity working to increase opportunities for residents in and around Crediton. Their summer programme is being run in partnership with Redlands Primary Care, The Turning Tides Project, Age Concern, Sustainable Crediton and the White Room Creative Space.  It has been funded by the Arts Council and supported by Devonshire Homes and Tesco.
