SPEED of vehicles through Yeoford and a request for more “20’s Plenty” notices was raised at the July meeting of Crediton Hamlets Parish Council.

It was noted that traffic going into the village from Crediton direction tended to speed up once round the corner and driving on towards the pub, despite the 20’s notices on both roads into the village. It was a question of safety for pedestrians.

Cllr Edna Beasley asked if there could be two more signs between the pub and the school.

She instanced a potentially dangerous situation where a car had been driven through the village past a mother and children walking on the road with no pavement.

“He could have taken out four people,” she said, adding that children often cycled along the road, too.

County Councillor Frank Letch said the signs had to be visible but not a distraction to drivers after it was said that the “20’s Plenty” sign on the road down from Larkhill was not best visible.

MAYBE SIGN SITES

Several councillors agreed when Cllr Beasley said that people walked along that stretch of road for the school and the railway. Part had no pavement.

Cllr Letch asked for photos of possible places where extra signs might go up to be sent to him so that he could check they were appropriate and maybe funding sought.

It was reported that Openreach had not honoured its Fibre to Premises voucher scheme, disappointing people living in the eastern part of Hamlets parish. As it was not clear who would pay for connection to the homes or whether a further extension to the deadline would be allowed, people felt they were in limbo.

It was reported there would be a three-day road closure this month at Venny Tedburn to allow Western Power to do re-poling and re-conductoring.

It was said that Tesco at Wellparks had taken out all the recycling banks there, leaving Crediton Morrisons as the only recycling bank in the town.

Cllr Letch pointed out that there was a recycling point in the St Saviour’s Way car park for the Salvation Army for, he thought, clothes and shoes. He would ask the district council about this.

Members wondered if the bins had been mis-used, leading to their removal.

The council supported an application for Listed Building Consent from Mrs S Butcher for internal alterations including changes to room layouts at Hope Cottage, Uton.

Also for a first floor extension at 4 Station Road, Yeoford for Mr O’Dorrell.

It was noted that Mid Devon District Council had given conditional permission to build an extension to an agricultural building to cover a slurry lagoon (827 sq m) at Hill Barton Farm for Mr P Brimacombe.

Also that conditional Listed Building Consent had been given to convert a lean-to to form an ensuite and scullery at Holwell Cottage, Neopardy for Mr R Hardeman and Ms V Crossley.

Also noted that an appeal had been allowed in relation to a temporary rural worker’s dwelling (mobile home) for management of a rural business at South West Game Birds, View Farm, Keymelford Cross, Colebrooke for Mr A Polhill.

The next meeting of the parish council is on September 5 at Yeoford Community Hall, October 3 at the Boniface Centre in Crediton, November 7 at Yeoford and December 5 at Crediton.
