JUDI Binks and Catherine West of Significant Seams will be highlighting the urgent need for early detection and diagnosis of ovarian cancer at Sustainable Crediton’s Eco-Crafternoon this Saturday, November 29, at the Boniface Centre from 1pm to 4pm.
This year all the takings from Judi's sales of recycled sari silk ribbons and silk slivers for spinning and felting are going to two charities: “Ovacome”, who specifically support ovarian cancer patients and “Lady Garden”, who do wonderful work with younger women and teenagers facing gynaecological cancers.
Judi was delighted when Catherine and Significant Seams generously offered to support her campaign to raise awareness of symptoms by displaying and circulating leaflets at the craft event this Saturday.
“My campaign is very simple. I want to reach out to women of all ages and to health care professionals,” said Ms Binks.
“By highlighting the symptoms of ovarian cancer to women of all ages and, to remind health professionals to offer a possibly life-saving CA125 test to patients feeling unusually bloated and full too soon after eating and with weird abdominal pains.
“Early detection and diagnosis is essential. The CA125 test can help to catch it whilst it is still treatable and curable.
“Please check for symptoms of ovarian cancer and see your GP and ask about a CA125 test if you feel too bloated or full after eating, need to visit the loo frequently and feel generally unwell.
“Don't overlook these symptoms. If detected early, the treatment rate is generally successful, but it is sadly incurable if left too late.
“Tell your mother, sister, aunt, grandma, female colleagues and friends to check for symptoms today and to notify their GP at once, if they notice any strange changes. Do not delay. Check your body!
“Together, we can start to save lives now.”
