HERE’S an opportunity for creative children who care about the planet.

Crediton Town Council is inviting local children to enter its Climate Change Emergency Poster Competition.

The competition will be judged on Saturday, February 15 at Old Landscore School, Crediton.

Last year three sisters from Crediton presented a letter to the council asking for action on climate change.

They wrote about palm oil and the loss of rainforests. They said there were too many plastics in the world and that they were worried about traffic and carbon emissions.

On Saturday, February 15, there will be a Climate Change Emergency day at Old Landscore School from 10.30am to 3pm, with free hot drinks – and cake!

This drop-in event is for everyone who cares about environmental issues facing the world.

It will promote the re-use of usable goods – with some on sale – and recycling.

Anyone can go along and make a bug hotel; get information about future events and suggest more actions for right now, as well as for future events and projects.

Children can make posters for the competition on any aspect of climate change they choose.

They can create their message in any way they like - painting, drawing, writing, collage or anything else. Some might prefer to design on a computer and print. Posters could be about the land, the oceans, animals, pollution, waste, resources – anything that children want other people to know about.

There will be two age groups: 5-9 years old and 10+ years old with a prize for each age group.

Children who attend Hayward’s or Landscore Primary Schools can take their entries into school by Friday, February 14, for collection. Alternatively, they can take them to Old Landscore School on the morning of Saturday, February 15, from 10.30am for judging at 2.30pm.

Children can also make a poster at the event itself. There will be art materials available for anyone who would like to use them.
