THE Choir of Crediton Parish Church swapped their usual surroundings of Holy Cross church the weekend before last for the fine medieval three - spired cathedral of Lichfield.
The trip was their furthest afield since Covid.
With the cathedral choir on holiday, Crediton’s choir under Director of Music, Jon Rawles, filled the gap by singing three choral services over the two days.
Careful practice in previous weeks paid off with the choir earning high praise from the cathedral staff.
The Dean, the Rt Rev Jan MacFarlane, hoped Crediton’s choir would return soon!
The weekend was also an opportunity for the whole choir to get together for a special Saturday evening carvery dinner at a local hotel before they too enjoy their usual August break.
At the end of the weekend, Jon Rawles thanked everyone for the hard work and commented how proud he was of the choir’s singing.
Choir practices resume at the start of September and the choir is always on the lookout for new members particularly among the junior choir (which is broadly for KS2 upwards).
It provides special opportunities for musical education.
Four of Crediton’s choristers will shortly be going on the prestigious Royal School of Church Music week-long course at Bath Abbey.
Parents or others interested in finding out more about the church choir are invited to email Jon on: [email protected].
Today the Choir still maintains extremely high standards and is much respected in the West of England.
The Choir currently comprises some 25 adults and 20 juniors.
The Junior Choir members also enjoy an active social life with events and activities and a social club.
