CREDITON and District Playscheme is looking for local volunteers to help run its programme for children with special needs. The local charitable group provides days out and a residential weekend for children from the Crediton area.
Anyone considering volunteering should be enthusiastic and fun, with a degree of patience. Almost any age is appropriate from 16 upwards.
The volunteers will be looking after a child on a one-to-one basis but will receive as much support as they need from the two supervisors and the rest of the group.
The Playscheme’s aims are to provide fun, social and active days out for the children in its care.
The ages of the children range from six up to the limit of 16.
The Playscheme’s yearly programme is for two separate days in the Easter holidays, six days across the summer holidays and a day in the lead up to Christmas.
The trips out are to places such as The Big Sheep, The Milky Way and this summer there is a trip planned to Dawlish on the train.
Volunteers are not expected to attend all of the trips but can opt to do as many as they feel they can commit to.
For any volunteer who comes forward it is such a friendly, warming and rewarding experience with the benefits, (if required), of being able to add to your CV and also, the Playscheme is happy to provide a reference for University or work applications.
Volunteers are required to have a DBS check which the Playscheme will arrange with them and will also cover the cost.
The Playscheme can only exist if it has enough volunteers to match the number of children that want to attend the trips.
If you have an odd day or two to spare across the year and fancy joining a group to have fun, provide an opportunity for others and maybe make a friend or would like to find out more about becoming a volunteer please either email: [email protected] or telephone Emily on 07447 447 257.
