A LOCAL man who is collecting aid to take to refugees from Ukraine in Eastern Poland would like to thank all who supported his aid donation day held at Crediton Rugby Club car park.

Shobrooke man Joe Bussell said: “A massive thank you to everybody, especially those who travelled in from surrounding villages.

“I am very pleased with the donations which are desperately needed in eastern Poland.

“I tried to speak to all concerned (but that was not always possible) and explain that their donations will be delivered during my next journey scheduled for September 20.”

Joe explained: “I will be taking the 16 seater minibus fully loaded and hope to return to the UK with visa authorised refugees.

“I was unable to cross the border to Lviv in Ukraine previously due to military concerns and time constraints but have every intention of doing so in September and I will also try to stay for a few days, using the minibus for local transport needs.”

Joe said he was pleased that supporters have organised a “sponsorship” charity football match next Sunday, August 7 at St Martin’s AFC (Exminster) versus a select team from Exeter City FC.  He said that the under 14s start at 11.30am and the seniors at 2.30pm.

“I will be there to help the organisers and will be happy to accept any aid donations that could be brought on the day.”

He added that he needs to secure around £2,000 to cover the cost of the journey, £800+ for fuel alone, then the Euro Tunnel or ferry and cheap B and B for two drivers over six nights.

Donations may be made via his Just Giving Crowdfunding link on his Facebook page “JOE BUSSELL”. Scroll down to the picture of Exeter Cathedral overlaid with the Ukraine flag. He says tap or click will give immediate access.
