A CREDITON man has admitted online grooming.

Martin Cottington, aged 50, now of Exeter, admitted attempted sexual communications with a 12-year-old child called between January 24 and 27 this year.

He also admitted attempting to meet an under aged girl following grooming on June 8, 2022 when he appeared at Exeter Crown Court.

Cottington denied attempted sexual communications with a 13-year-old girl and arranging to contact a child between June 1 and 9 this year. The prosecution decided not to pursue these two cases.

Judge Peter Johnson adjourned his sentence and ordered a probation pre-sentence report but told him: ‘It has been rightly conceded that this case crossed the custodial threshold. Your expectation should be a custodial sentence.’

The court was not told any details of Cottington’s arrest.
