PARENTS at Copplestone Primary School have made new patchwork picnic blankets out of old school jumpers.

When the uniform was updated in 2019, members of the PTA wanted to repurpose the hundreds of jumpers that would otherwise have been thrown away into something pupils could enjoy.

The six-year project has seen mothers spend many hours cutting squares out of the pullovers and create seven giant patchwork picnic blankets, backed in the colour of each class.

“We are so grateful to the CPTA for creating these beautiful rugs,” Head of School Alison Mackey said.

“They will be used for school events such as sports day or for outdoor learning.”

Tracy, Emily, Helen and Helen of the “jumperugs” team have thanked CJ McMillan Furniture and Upholstery for helping with the sewing.
