THE current shutdown of pubs, hotels and restaurants has had an enormous effect on M C Kelly Ltd, of Copplestone, as those businesses formed 80 per cent of its customers.

The top quality local meat M C Kelly sell is now being sold to a new and appreciative market through a box scheme with an online ordering website.

Instead of being limited to the immediate area with van deliveries M C Kelly now has nationwide distribution.

Direct deliveries are being made throughout the Crediton area and much further afield or can be made through Crediton Delivery Hub.

Deliveries are via a courier with the meat insulated in an innovative sheep’s wool based cover (like a duvet) to keep the meat safely cold.

Rather than shut down and furlough everyone M C Kelly has met the challenge of delivering meat to those that need and appreciate it and often are unable to safely shop due to having to self-isolate.

MEALS FOR THOSE IN NEED

As a company M C Kelly has also been assisting the Country Food Trust (https://www.thecountryfoodtrust.org/) supply foodbanks and those in food poverty.

This week they sourced and delivered 175,000 meals worth of meat into 19 FareShare depots throughout the country.

If combined with the previous few months, M C Kelly has supplied more than a quarter of a million meal equivalents.

These are all paid for by donations and sourced at below cost by M C Kelly.

This charity is fast approaching 1,000,000 meals given to the homeless and food banks in the last few years.

The need is so much greater in these conditions and any help that can be given is hugely appreciated. The Country Food Trust has been supplying donated game meat in pre-cooked pouches with a 12-month shelf life which can be handed to the homeless in a ready to eat form.
